Product Information
The Sloe Berry, a native bush you will find growing alongside blackberry bushes in the woods, or along side a country lane. In fact, we here at Direct Plants have some wild plants growing down our little country lane, and are very popular with the birds. During February-March, on very thorny ,bare, blackish stems, gorgeous dense clouds of fluffy white flowers emerge, brightening up this wonderful bush. Flowers are followed by mid-sized, dark-green, oval leaves in the spring, and later on in the year damson-like berries emerge. Fruits start of with a blue bloom but then darken to a shiny black. Fruits are excellent for infusing with vodka, brandy and gin. Sloe Berry is brilliant used as a hedging plant, being thorny will keep out any unwanted visitors, but does provide shelter for birds and wildlife. Very easy to grow and maintain and suitable for all gardens, including coastal.
